BE IT ENACTED BY THE YOUTH LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA YOUTH LEGISLATURE –
Remove Daylight Savings Time
Daylight Savings Time was useful back in the 1900s, but in our day, it is pretty useless, and messes up everyone's day.
It can mess up your sleep schedule because you technically sleep an hour later. It makes the day start earlier, which
for some people, sucks, and at 5:00 PM it is already dark! It can also mess up the time things are set to happen at.
This bill aims to remove this, and keep us at our normal time.
SECTION II - JUSTIFICATION
Daylight savings time isn’t necessary at all anymore, and it should be removed because it just messes up everyone's day.
Sure it gives us an hour of our weekend, but it makes the day turn to night around 5, and nobody likes that, and at 6 in
the morning it starts to get bright, which can cause people to get less sleep, and that's not good when they have a job,
or school. It also can take a lot of work to change the clock, you might have to take down the clock from a wall, change
batteries, and nobody wants to do house work on a sunday. This applies to everybody. When the time comes to switch the
clocks an hour forward, you don’t. Every public space is expected to show the correct time as well.
SECTION III - DEFINITIONS
Daylight Savings Time - When the clocks are moved forwards an hour
Not much funding is needed, but if a clock requires money to fix/change to the correct time, they could get the cost
covered by money from the fines charged on other people.
SECTION V – PENALTIES/ENFORCEMENT
If a public space has a clock wrong, depending on the severity, they could get fined up to 1000$ depending on the
severity (multiple months showing wrong time, multiple clocks wrong).
SECTION VI – EFFECTIVE DATE
This Bill takes effect on November 1st, 2026
