BE IT ENACTED BY THE YOUTH LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA YOUTH LEGISLATURE –
An act to
Doze to Grow Those Scores

SECTION I - PURPOSE
The purpose is to enforce a 30 minute nap period twice a week to help improve not only your mental health, but also test
scores. It will mainly affect students because they can focus better, have less stress, and will feel mentally refreshed
after waking up.

SECTION II - JUSTIFICATION
Students across the United States struggle with different forms of mental health. According to Kirsten K. Rossler having
a short nap at school can help prevent any stress related problems. A majority of teens also are living with mild to
impactful sleep deprivation. A study from Child Mind Institute states that teenagers need over nine hours of sleep a
night to be healthy. “But over a third of teens get only five to six hours a night” According to another website titled
Sleepfoundation.org teens need eight to ten hours of sleep per night. Through all of this studies show having a specific
time in school to have a nap or rest period students will feel more confident, and test scores will increase immensely.
